Feeling miserable with all this weight gain and health issues.

I am a 44-year-old mother to two. I never had issues with weight gain until…..I had my second child at the age of 34. After that pregnancy, I kept gaining weight every year. I have been on and off with diets, supplements, medications. Now I have all sorts of health issues that need to be dealt ASAP. High cholesterol, digestive issues, bloating, high sugar, fatty liver, migraines, tension headaches.

I have been a vegetarian for 14 years and for the past 4 years, I have added eggs and more dairy to my diet….Now I have decided to changes things up a bit. During the winter months I will consume lightly cooked vegan foods and during the summer months a more raw based vegan diet.

I will be posting my progress, recipes, and tips.

As of today, I weigh 175 lbs, last month I weighed 166 lbs, that’s about 9 lbs weight gain in one month.

Meeting the Dalai Lama..

Like any other night before I drift off to dreamland, I sat down in my bed and meditated.  I was getting a bit tired and decided to continue my meditation laying down. I closed my eyes and focused on my breath..as it got deeper and slower, I began to feel lighter, more and more relaxed. After some time I was not in my bed anymore.

It was late evening, the sun was setting. The air was fresh, and it was very quiet. I felt a great sense of peace, I looked around and noticed a forest ahead of me, with what appears to be a path, without hesitation I rushed to the path and began to walk, I looked down at my feet and noticed I was barefoot.  Nevertheless, I kept walking and came upon a clearing. I looked ahead and saw a small fire, sort of like a campfire, and next to the fire was a figure…I decided to get a closer look, as I got closer a sense of joy filled my heart..tears of happiness flowed from my eyes like rain drops. I knew who was ahead of me…It was the Dalai Lama, not the current Dalai lama..the very first, Dalai Lama.

I instinctively knew what to do. As I approached nearer to him, I noticed a cushion opposite of him for me to sit. I sat in lotus position and just looked at him the eye and a beautiful conversation occurred…without using our voice.  I don’t remember the whole conversation. I remembered him saying “Focus on your body, When mind and body become one, then you will connect with the source”.

I smiled, closed my eyes and all of a sudden found my body lifting off the cushion. Can you believe? I was levitating. I laughed with such joy.

Messages from within

I sat on my bed in the lotus position, back and spine straight. My eyes were closed and fixated at the spot between my eyebrows. I began to just focus on the breath, trying not to control it…just letting it do its job, as it flows in and out. Thoughts popping up trying to distract me, I didn’t fight with it…I allowed it to be and calmly went back to focusing on my breath. Of course, I got an itch on my back, where I cannot even reach it, I rubbed my back against the head board of my bed and continued on with my focusing……and then felt a little discomfort in my hips. Distractions just one after the other and it seems this only happens to me when I sit down to meditate :). I  try not to judge what I feel, just accepted it and moved on. I kept on focusing on my breath, getting deeper and slower…my body felt lighter and lighter…I saw splashes of light and color at the ‘third eye’ area. I was careful not to get distracted by that too, even though it was beautiful. I enjoyed the light show and moved on, breath became slower and body became more and more relaxed……I was physically no longer in my room, and here are the wonderful visions and messages of that session.

I was in a place like no other. I was nowhere and everywhere…I hope that makes any sense to you. It was like in space, no planets, no earth…just darkness and I was the light. I was walking and running, trying to find answers and to understand. I was in distress. I began to hear a divine voice, I cannot describe..it was neither male or female and it had many wonderful messages for me as I ran around in confusion and distress..it all came in bits, I will write them as such.

light-in-darkness.jpg

“Why do you keep searching outside….you are running here there and everywhere. Stop it! Sit down right where you are, close your eyes and start your journey within…..that is where all the answers of the universe lie. Knowledge of the whole universe and beyond lies within”

“Clear the clutter of the mind and you will see all things clearly”

“We all need a spiritual cleansing, from all the junk that has been impregnated in the mind, from all the junk we feed ourselves physically and mentally”

“Belief – There is no Fear….feel it in every fiber of your being, without an ounce of doubt, where nothing can shake or break you….then there is nothing you cannot conquer”

“Never give up, all your efforts are accounted for, no matter how small”

“There is so much going on…Your inner self, crying out….. help me!”

“It has been the same message since time immemorial, so simple and yet you still don’t get it….LOVE

Homemade natural deodorant recipe.

I made my own deodorant and it actually works pretty well, that I will not be going back to store bought deodorants. After a few trials, I have come up with the perfect recipe that works great for me.  I use it in the mornings and lasts all day. I was still dry even during light exercise.

Recipe: Jar, 1 tsp corn starch, .5 tsp baking soda, .5 tsp cold pressed coconut oil &  a few drops of your favorite essential oils.

*Arrowroot powder can be used instead of baking soda

Blend well, to the consistency of dough. Place in the jar and refrigerate. No need to refrigerate daily. I have had this for two weeks and it has not gone bad yet. It leaves no residue as seen in photos below.

Please keep in mind any allergies you may have. Essential oils are concentrated, so please start with just a few drops first, test it and add more if desired.

Feel free to adjust the recipe as needed. Use less baking soda might work better for you, as some might be a bit sensitive to it. Be sure to test it first and make adjustments as needed.

Recipe for Good Health – Turmeric Milk

According to the Journal of the American Chemical Society, turmeric contains a wide range of antioxidant, antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, anticarcinogenic, antimutagenic and anti-inflammatory properties. It is also loaded with many healthy nutrients such as protein, dietary fiber, niacin, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Vitamin K, sodium, potassium, calcium, copper, iron, magnesium and zinc. Due to all these factors, turmeric is often used to treat a wide variety of health problems. Such as, Prevents Alzheimer’s disease, improves digestion, relieves arthritis, controls diabetes, prevents liver disease, prevents cancers, Weight management, heals wounds, reduces cholesterol levels .   I have been using this recipe for the general health benefits and to help with inflammation and body aches and pains, I also use it during winter months to prevent colds and coughs. If you have lots of body aches and pain..then I recommend you use it for 40 days, then after that you can drink it once or twice a week etc..or whenever you feel like it. Now I drink when needed it could be once a month. The recipe below is how I make it. I use Demerara raw brown sugar found in my local caribbean grocery store, or you can use, stevia, raw honey or any other organic brown sugar. I use turmeric root, looks like ginger, but has an orange color on the inside I grate it like ginger and add to the water for boiling, if that is not available I use organic turmeric powder. I use more water to boil, because water will dissipate. I use 3/4 of my cup is turmeric water, and 1/4 cup is milk. This has really helped with bodily aches and pain, I remember when I couldn’t even get out of bed to walk, it would be too painful..not anymore 🙂

To make one 8 oz cup

1 teaspoon turmeric powder/or grated root

1.5-2 cups water

1/4 cup milk

sweetener

nutmeg for taste optional

Add water, turmeric to water and bring to boil for 8-10 minutes, in a separate container bring to boil the milk for about 1-2 min. After boiling, strain the turmeric water mixture into your cup/mug add the milk, sweetener and nutmeg and enjoy 🙂
